Four of Cups tarot card

"Contemplation isn't the question. What you do next is."

Six quick picks first, then your reading

On the card

After the joyful party of the three of cups, the four of cups is about living in the past and refusing to move onto a new adventure. This card is about boredom and apathy, but fear not! Boredom is a kind of rest that can lead to new ideas!

Upright
ContemplationApathyReevaluationDiscontent

Your past is holding you back from seeing the obvious path ahead (e.g stop thinking about how great your ex is, because there's a new person on the horizon if you would look up to see them). Perhaps you are feeling restless at your job or with your relationship, pay attention to that energy as it can motivate you to take a big (and scary) step to make a change!

Reversed

You are unwilling to take action and it's making you miserable. You are obsessing about something (maybe a past love, maybe a future you thought you were heading toward)-- and it's keeping you stuck. Practice letting your thoughts flow instead of holding onto them so tightly

Four of Cups for Capricorn in Love and Relationships

The Architect

Cups are the water suit, so the Four of Cups sits in Cancer. Cancer sits directly opposite Capricorn, so this card describes the half of the situation Capricorn habitually hands to someone else. What it wants is this: say the feeling to the person it is about. Handing that to another person is exactly the habit. Upright, the structure is holding. Holding is not the same as being right.

When reading about relationships through a Capricorn lens, the Four of Cups says that you feel like intimacy is something you build toward through consistency and small acts, a long-term project with measurable progress (or regression), and safer when you know exactly what is expected. This has either created a partnership that deepens because you actually show up or left you unable to ask for anything because asking feels like admitting you cannot handle it alone. The thing you're not saying out loud is the thing that matters most. The Capricorn blind spot in it is being useless, being a burden, being the person who could not hold it together.

In practice that can look like new love, or a conversation that changes the temperature. Whatever form it takes, it has settled into something stable enough to hide in.
