"Hardship isn't the question. What you do next is."
Six quick picks first, then your reading
Two beggars in a snow-storm pass a richly lighted window. Pentacles represents wealth and the five card represents a challenge. The five of pentacles represents a financial loss, or scarcity mindset.
Look closer.
This card foretells a financial hard time; perhaps a car breakdown or unexpected expense will come up. Maybe your job feels unstable or your partner might be losing their job. It can also mean something is causing scarcity mindset in terms of romantic or platonic relationships (it can hint at infidelity). You feel like you might become destitute (financially or emotionally). Try to not give energy to your fears of loss, and lean on your community to get through a tough time.
You have reversed a poor financial decision and made a comeback-- having to make do with less has taught you a lesson (perhaps who you can lean on or how strong you actually are)
Older decks just showed five coins. Pamela Colman Smith, who drew this 1909 deck, was among the first to paint a full scene for every card.

Five of Pentacles for Libra in Self and Identity
The Harmonizer
Pentacles are the earth suit, so the Five of Pentacles sits in Capricorn. Capricorn squares Libra, so the card asks for the move Libra is least fluent in: change one concrete arrangement this week. The friction is the content, not an obstacle to it. Upright, the loss is happening rather than being feared, which is the harder and simpler thing.
When reading about yourself through a Libra lens, the Five of Pentacles says that you feel like you are a collection of versions that other people have seen in you, a thing that must stay balanced or it will tip into being unlikeable, and something you do not fully trust without external confirmation. This has either kept you from knowing what you actually like, or forced you to become very clear about who you are precisely by refusing to be a mirror anymore. You have been so focused on who you think you should be that you haven't checked in with who you actually are. The Libra blind spot in it is being the one who breaks the tie, names the problem, or asks for something first.
In practice that can look like a routine that finally sticks, or the body asking for the basics. Whatever form it takes, it is breaking, and the loss in it is real.
