Four of Cups tarot card

"Contemplation isn't the question. What you do next is."

Six quick picks first, then your reading

On the card

After the joyful party of the three of cups, the four of cups is about living in the past and refusing to move onto a new adventure. This card is about boredom and apathy, but fear not! Boredom is a kind of rest that can lead to new ideas!

Upright
ContemplationApathyReevaluationDiscontent

Your past is holding you back from seeing the obvious path ahead (e.g stop thinking about how great your ex is, because there's a new person on the horizon if you would look up to see them). Perhaps you are feeling restless at your job or with your relationship, pay attention to that energy as it can motivate you to take a big (and scary) step to make a change!

Reversed

You are unwilling to take action and it's making you miserable. You are obsessing about something (maybe a past love, maybe a future you thought you were heading toward)-- and it's keeping you stuck. Practice letting your thoughts flow instead of holding onto them so tightly

Four of Cups for Aries in Self and Identity

The Initiator

Cups are the water suit, so the Four of Cups sits in Cancer. Cancer squares Aries, so the card asks for the move Aries is least fluent in: say the feeling to the person it is about. The friction is the content, not an obstacle to it. Upright, the structure is holding. Holding is not the same as being right.

When reading about yourself through an Aries lens, the Four of Cups says that you feel like your body is a machine to prove something with, a problem to outrun (or overcome), and the only thing you trust because it does what you tell it to. This has either made you physically strong and brave enough to try what others won't, or left you injured and angry at your own body for not cooperating with your will. You have been so focused on who you think you should be that you haven't checked in with who you actually are. The Aries blind spot in it is the feeling that nothing you do makes any difference, that you are not the center of the story.

In practice that can look like grief you did not schedule. Whatever form it takes, it has settled into something stable enough to hide in.
