The Devil tarot card

"You're not stuck. You just think the chains are locked."

Six quick picks first, then your reading

On the card

The devil card represents our inner demons; he's often in a fiery pit with a kind of subversion of the garden of eden where adam and eve are chained to him. The devil reminds us of our potential salvation, while trying to shackle us to our fears that we will never be worthy of it

Upright
Shadow SelfAttachmentAddictionMaterialism

You are in a hell, and it's partly of your own making. The situation might be dire, but you deserve better and part of you knows it. Perhaps you are ruminating, calling an ex, or doing some other unhealthy coping mechanism to help the pain you feel inside. Focus on healing your inner child and wounds instead and your problems should become more manageable.

Reversed

You've done the hard work to face the parts of yourself that you might not like. You dodged a bullet and made the healthy choice even though you were tempted to fall back into old patterns

Major ArcanaCard 15
One of the 22 Major Arcana. They point to the large themes and turning points in a life, not the day to day. When one comes up, the reading is about something bigger than this week.
StageThe return
After the Fool, the Major Arcana run in three stages of seven: the outer world (1 to 7), the turn inward (8 to 14) and the return (15 to 21). This one is in the return: meeting what was buried, and coming back changed rather than fixed.

The Devil for Capricorn in Self and Identity

The Architect

Saturn rules Capricorn, so this card is not describing an outside force. It is describing Capricorn to itself, which is why there is no distance in it. Upright, this is surfacing whether or not it was invited.

When reading about yourself through a Capricorn lens, the Devil card says that you feel like you are the sum of what you have accomplished, valuable primarily when producing something others can point to, and most real when you are being useful. This has either made you someone with genuine integrity and follow-through or someone who cannot rest without guilt, who mistakes self-abandonment for dedication. You have been so focused on who you think you should be that you haven't checked in with who you actually are. The Capricorn blind spot in it is being useless, being a burden, being the person who could not hold it together.

In practice that can look like something you cannot un-see about yourself, or a season ending. Whatever form it takes, it is surfacing whether or not it was invited.
