Mercury rules Gemini, so this card is not describing an outside force. It is describing Gemini to itself, which is why there is no distance in it. Upright, this has turned inward, to the place where the outer tools stop working.
When reading about money through a Gemini lens, the Hermit card says that you feel like money is a system to understand and optimize, something you can talk through and plan, and a thing that moves too fast to catch (or that you catch too late). This has either created real financial literacy and strategic flexibility or a pattern of knowing exactly what to do and doing something else entirely. You have not looked at your full financial picture all at once, and the not-looking costs more than the looking would. The Gemini blind spot in it is stillness, silence, the moment when talking stops and you have to feel what you actually feel, the weight of having chosen one thing and not the other.
