Eight of Cups tarot card

"Walking Away isn't the question. What you do next is."

Six quick picks first, then your reading

On the card

This card is about seeing all the possibilities and not liking any of them. Sometimes you are told that the only options are the ones right in front of you, but in many situations that is not actually true. Walking away is also an option-- this card reminds us to not be limited by what we see before us and to seek out new/novel ideas

Upright
Walking AwayDisillusionmentSeeking Deeper MeaningCourage

Everything feels like it should be perfect, but deep down you are unsatisfied. Maybe you are unhappy in a relationship that on paper looks great, maybe you are miserable at a job that pays well, or maybe you come home after a hangout with your cup less full than when you left. Pay attention to these signs, they are telling you to seek out a new path. Cutting ties may be painful, but living according to your own values will feel more rewarding (and sustainable) long term

Reversed

You are denying your deep truth about a situation, you know it's not quite a perfect fit, but due to some reason (maybe trauma, maybe comfort, maybe fear of change) you are not listening to the signs that are clear in front of you. The eight of cups reversed reminds you to listen to your own truth

Its place in the deck.

Minor ArcanaNumber card
One of the 56 Minor Arcana. They are about what is happening in ordinary life right now. Each belongs to one of four suits, numbered Ace to Ten, plus four court cards.
SuitCups · Water
Cups are the suit of Water: feeling and attachment. A Cups card is always, underneath, about what you feel and who you are attached to.
NumberEight
The numbers tell a story inside each suit, from a seed at the Ace to the full expression at Ten. Eight is the work: unglamorous repetition, the part nobody posts about.

Eight of Cups for Leo in Self and Identity

The Creator

Cups are the water suit, so the Eight of Cups sits in Cancer. Cancer sits directly beside Leo, the one relationship a sign cannot see clearly because it is too close to get any distance on. What it asks for is this: say the feeling to the person it is about. The difficulty is noticing it is being asked at all. Upright, the work is available, and it is repetitive rather than dramatic.

When reading about yourself through a Leo lens, the Eight of Cups says that you feel like your image is the thing you are always refining, something that could always be more impressive (or more real), and the constant distance between who you are and who you appear. This has either built genuine self-awareness through the practice of refinement, or left you exhausted from maintaining two different people. You have been so focused on who you think you should be that you haven't checked in with who you actually are. The Leo blind spot in it is being ordinary, being forgotten, being the one no one thought to invite, being seen doing something mediocre.

In practice that can look like a feeling arriving late. Whatever form it takes, it is going to take unglamorous repetition.
