"Loss isn't the question. What you do next is."

Six quick picks first, then your reading

On the card

A tumultuous card-- lots of spilled cups and a lack of connection. This card signifies struggle and loss.

Upright
LossGriefRegretMoving On

A major setback has occurred. Grieve for what you lost (maybe a relationship, a part of yourself, or a loved one). It's okay to be sad-- this card calls us to honor that sadness. It was a big deal and it's okay that you're hurting. Give yourself time to heal.

Reversed

In a dark time, you found a path through to the light. Slowly you found yourself again and that inner strength is like a candle in the dark. You can navigate this situation.

One of the 56 Minor Arcana. They are about what is happening in ordinary life right now. Each belongs to one of four suits, numbered Ace to Ten, plus four court cards.
SuitCups ยท Water
Cups are the suit of Water: feeling and attachment. A Cups card is always, underneath, about what you feel and who you are attached to.
NumberFive
The numbers tell a story inside each suit, from a seed at the Ace to the full expression at Ten. Five is the break: the structure fails and something is genuinely lost.

Five of Cups for Capricorn in Self and Identity

The Architect

Cups are the water suit, so the Five of Cups sits in Cancer. Cancer sits directly opposite Capricorn, so this card describes the half of the situation Capricorn habitually hands to someone else. What it wants is this: say the feeling to the person it is about. Handing that to another person is exactly the habit. Upright, the loss is happening rather than being feared, which is the harder and simpler thing.

When reading about yourself through a Capricorn lens, the Five of Cups says that you feel like you are the sum of what you have accomplished, valuable primarily when producing something others can point to, and most real when you are being useful. This has either made you someone with genuine integrity and follow-through or someone who cannot rest without guilt, who mistakes self-abandonment for dedication. You have been so focused on who you think you should be that you haven't checked in with who you actually are. The Capricorn blind spot in it is being useless, being a burden, being the person who could not hold it together.

In practice that can look like liking yourself unexpectedly. Whatever form it takes, it is breaking, and the loss in it is real.
