Five of Cups tarot card

"Loss isn't the question. What you do next is."

Six quick picks first, then your reading

On the card

A tumultuous card-- lots of spilled cups and a lack of connection. This card signifies struggle and loss.

Upright
LossGriefRegretMoving On

A major setback has occurred. Grieve for what you lost (maybe a relationship, a part of yourself, or a loved one). It's okay to be sad-- this card calls us to honor that sadness. It was a big deal and it's okay that you're hurting. Give yourself time to heal.

Reversed

In a dark time, you found a path through to the light. Slowly you found yourself again and that inner strength is like a candle in the dark. You can navigate this situation.

Its place in the deck.

Minor ArcanaNumber card
One of the 56 Minor Arcana. They are about what is happening in ordinary life right now. Each belongs to one of four suits, numbered Ace to Ten, plus four court cards.
SuitCups ยท Water
Cups are the suit of Water: feeling and attachment. A Cups card is always, underneath, about what you feel and who you are attached to.
NumberFive
The numbers tell a story inside each suit, from a seed at the Ace to the full expression at Ten. Five is the break: the structure fails and something is genuinely lost.

Five of Cups for Aquarius in Self and Identity

The Visionary

Cups are the water suit, so the Five of Cups sits in Cancer. Cancer and Aquarius are quincunx, two signs with nothing in common: no shared element, mode, or polarity. This card will not slot neatly into how Aquarius already operates. What it wants is this: say the feeling to the person it is about. It has to be done deliberately or it will not happen. Upright, the loss is happening rather than being feared, which is the harder and simpler thing.

When reading about yourself through an Aquarius lens, the Five of Cups says that you feel like your own mind is the most reliable thing you have, a maze you navigate alone, and a machine that works better when you are not feeling too much. This has either made you brilliantly self-sufficient, or cut you off from the one thing that might actually change you. You have been so focused on who you think you should be that you haven't checked in with who you actually are. The Aquarius blind spot in it is being ordinary, or worse, being needed in a way that pins them down.

In practice that can look like liking yourself unexpectedly. Whatever form it takes, it is breaking, and the loss in it is real.
