The Fool tarot card

"You already know the answer. You're just scared."

Six quick picks first, then your reading

On the card

A youth on the start of a journey stands precariously on a cliff, but remains free of anxieties. Holding a rose, a small pack, and guided by a dog. They are unperturbed (and perhaps excited) by the cliff they stand on or the trials they will soon face.

Look closer.

New BeginningsAdventureTrustInnocence

Take a leap of faith to start something new and exciting. The past guides us through our inner voice and tells us to find a balance between the known and unknown. Remember, anxiety and excitement can feel the same in the body. Remain open to new experiences and trust in your own wild heart

Reversed

Something is blocking you from your new adventure: perhaps fear of the unknown, lack of trust in your own intuition, or a true sense of needing more information before moving forward.

Card lore

The fool card in earlier version of the deck was called 'the jester', evoking the idea of a court jester who can speak truth to a powerful king or someone who follows their own path. From the card imagery we can see that this card also references the Greek trickster god Hermes (notice the gold boots, the wand and the running position).

Its place in the deck.

The Fool is card 0, outside the three stages of seven that the rest of the Major Arcana run in: the one who has not started and therefore cannot be measured.

The Fool for Pisces in Work and Career

The Dreamer

Uranus works on a longer clock than Neptune-ruled Pisces is used to. Whatever this is, it will not resolve on Pisces's preferred timeline. Upright, nothing has started yet, and that is the actual content of the card rather than a delay in it.

When reading about work through a Pisces lens, the Fool card says that you feel like work is where you prove your value through knowing what everyone else needs before they do, a place where your own tasks blur into managing the room's emotions, and somewhere you can disappear into usefulness. This has either led to you burning out quietly while everyone else thrives on your labor, or to you becoming so essential that staying feels like the only way to matter. You have not asked yourself what you actually want from this work, only what you think you should want from it. The Pisces blind spot in it is the moment they have to stop being useful and admit they're drowning.

In practice that can look like a change large enough to reorganise the rest, or the job becoming a different job. Whatever form it takes, it has not started, which is the whole point of it.

Somewhere else?
