On the card

A tumultuous card-- lots of spilled cups and a lack of connection. This card signifies struggle and loss.

Upright
LossGriefRegretMoving On

A major setback has occurred. Grieve for what you lost (maybe a relationship, a part of yourself, or a loved one). It's okay to be sad-- this card calls us to honor that sadness. It was a big deal and it's okay that you're hurting. Give yourself time to heal.

Reversed

In a dark time, you found a path through to the light. Slowly you found yourself again and that inner strength is like a candle in the dark. You can navigate this situation.

One of the 56 Minor Arcana. They are about what is happening in ordinary life right now. Each belongs to one of four suits, numbered Ace to Ten, plus four court cards.
SuitCups · Water
Cups are the suit of Water: feeling and attachment. A Cups card is always, underneath, about what you feel and who you are attached to.
NumberFive
The numbers tell a story inside each suit, from a seed at the Ace to the full expression at Ten. Five is the break: the structure fails and something is genuinely lost.

Five of Cups for Aries in The Future

The Initiator

Cups are the water suit, so the Five of Cups sits in Cancer. Cancer squares Aries, so the card asks for the move Aries is least fluent in: say the feeling to the person it is about. The friction is the content, not an obstacle to it. Upright, the loss is happening rather than being feared, which is the harder and simpler thing.

When reading about what comes next through an Aries lens, the Five of Cups says that you feel like the future is happening right now and you are late for it, something to grab before it passes (or before you miss your window), and the only thing that matters more than what is actually in front of you. This has either made you the person who sees what is coming and moves first, or left you burned out from trying to run toward every door at once. You already know what comes next, and you are afraid of what it will cost you to get there. The Aries blind spot in it is the feeling that nothing you do makes any difference, that you are not the center of the story.

In practice that can look like wanting something you had stopped admitting to, or a place that feels like home. Whatever form it takes, it is breaking, and the loss in it is real.
